Pierre Koenig’s Last Masterpiece

Pierre Koenig’s last masterpiece home was completed this year by James Tyler who took over the project for owner and mid-century modern collector and preservationist Michael LaFetra after Koenig died in 2004.  LaFetra bought the land in 1999 which was occupied by Pia Zadora-owned spec house and had talked about his plan to build a Koenig design on the beachfrom lot in Malibu. According to a 2005 LA Times article, Koenig and LaFetra became friends and in 2000 Koenig offered to build the LaFetra beach house.

"The plan Koenig ultimately came up with called for a house built from a massive steel-and-glass grid, with living space on the first two floors and three bedrooms on the top level. The entire wall facing the ocean would be made of transparent glass. Although LaFetra asked for polished concrete and cork floors in place of the vinyl tile Koenig favored, in most other ways the house would adhere to Koenig's spare style. It would have an open floor plan and would be finished with Sheetrock and painted steel," stated in the LA Times.

The beachfront 4 bedroom, three and a half bathroom, solar powered home, featuring a drawbridge and amazing ocean views and setting is currently for sale for $18.495,000.

The property is a spectacular home done by a master architect that over time many may say rivals his Case Study Home #22!
