Award winning design by
Studio Pali Fekete Architects (spf:a). This home impressed judges by its use of
public and private space to break up it long rectangular shape. Interesting
enough, it was form that followed function in making this decision. Zoltan E.
Pali, FAIA, created to linear block as a response to the site’s unstable soils
and to frame the prevailing canyon views. The result is, “You experience the
views when you're moving through the house, as opposed to in just one room,”
Pali explains.
The spaces unfold along the
property's eastern edge. On the first floor, an open courtyard separates the
garage, utility area, and maid's quarters from the living spaces. The airy
second floor holds the master bedroom and bath and, across the glass bridge, a
study and second bedroom suite. The project completed in 2007, remains a iconic
image of the upper Stone Canyon location.
