Frank Lloyd Wright, The John Storer Residence- 8161 HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES,CA 90069

It was Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural work in Los Angeles that first inspired me to become an architectural designer as a teenager. I spent a lot of time at the Hollyhock house, had visited on many occasions the Ennis House in Los Feliz, but even though I grown up just up the hill from the Storer house, I didn't get to see inside it until movie producer Joel Silver did his renovation to it. Falling Water I consider my favorite of his majestic work, but this home in every way represents his genius body of work. It is a perfect example of what has become know as Mayan Revival Architecture. Now for sale, this is truly an amazing opportunity to own an architectural masterpiece by "the greatest American architect of all time". -Markus

Quoting Sally Woodbridge from her book on the California houses of the Historic American Buildings Survey: "Of all the architects who perceived the Edenic possibilities of California, none capitalized on them with more sensitivity and assurance than Frank Lloyd Wright" A timeless Edenic magic lives on today in the restored, and eminently livable Storer Residence.

645 TUALLITAN ROAD, BRENTWOOD CA 90049

"I have long been a fan of Steven Ehrlich, FAIA, he is a master of architecture whose work can be seen to have been inspired by two of my favorite earlier architects, Neutra & Schindler. Ehrilich's modern day zen modern designs has now influenced many others world-wide. His work has been often imitated, but rarely equaled. The Schulman Residence white walls are in beautiful contrast to the warm wood & stone tones that anchor this relevant home to it's beautiful outdoor surroundings. This is a wonderful home and a truly rare offering for sale". -Markus

About The Property:

Embracing the curved topography of its canyon location, the Schulman Residence blends with the natural contours of its site and the vegetation of its surroundings, bonding with the landscape. The house is set on an ample canyon lot with a large, informal back yard gently defined by three hillside slopes. An underground garage minimizes the intrusion of automobiles on the property.
To separate public and private spaces the 9,000 square foot residence is broken into a pair of two-story wings that subtly pay homage, both in form and materials, to the traditions of early California Modernists. The original part of two symmetrical wings was modified to meet site constraints and programmatic requirements, instead carving out a landscaped forecourt in an approach conceived as a journey of transition from chaos to tranquility. The north wing containing the master suite on the upper floor is aligned with the slope, and is further articulated with clerestories and a greenhouse addition. At the juncture of the two wings, an entry gallery and a double-height living form a central unifying space. A floating bridge joins the two upper floors, spanning the width of the entrance gallery and heightening the symmetry of the wings.

Marketing Description:
THE SCHULMAN RESIDENCE. STEVEN EHRLICH, FAIA EHRLICH'S ADEPT INTERPRETATION OF CALIFORNIA MODERNIST STYLE REFLECTS A COMPREHENSIVE BLENDING OF THE SENSIBILITIES OF SCHINDLER AND NEUTRA, WITH DELICATE JAPANESE INFLUENCES. HE HAS PROMINENTLY SITED THE RESIDENCE TO PRONOUNCE ARRIVAL. HIS ARTICULATE BLEND OF CONCRETE, GLASS, STEEL AND RICH WOODS INVITE THE SPECIFIC CONTOUR OF THE GROUNDS TO BECOME -AS ONE- WITH THE RESIDENCE. A GATED, BAMBOO LINED DRIVE LEADS TO A FORECOURT OF THIS MONUMENTAL MASTERWORK OF A DISTINGUISHED RESIDENCE. EHRLICH HAS DEFTLY ACCOMPLISHED THE BALANCE OF STRIKING GEOMETRIC ANGLES WITH THE SOFT LANDING OF A WATER FEATURED ENTRY BRIDGE AND WALLS OF SHOJI SCREEN INSPIRED, HORIZONTAL WOOD RAILED GLASS. THE ENTRY DELIVERS AN EXTENDED VIEW OF THE GARDENS AND IS ANCHORED BY A 2-STORY LIVING ROOM, FLANKED BY TWO DISTINCT WINGS, EITHER SIDE ACCESSED BY A GALLERY RECEPTION HALL AND AN UPPER BRIDGEWAY VIA 2 STAIR TOWERS. MEDIA ROOM, LIBRARY, DUAL OFFICES, GAME ROOM.
